Today’s Op-Eds

:: Los Angeles Times op-ed calls for public employees to carry out their duty to the public and perform marriages for same-gender couples, regardless of personal prejudice: Saying “I don’t” to gay marriage.
“Gay and lesbian couples should not be subjected to embarrassing scenes in which county workers scurry around looking for someone willing to declare them married. Those who do the public's business have every right to oppose and condemn same-sex marriage -- on their days off.” Read.

:: A rather academic op-ed from Jurist magazine explores the differences between the Massachusetts and California decisions: Same-Sex Marriage/Same-Sex Family.
"At the same time that gay rights advocates and the court itself appropriated “family values” discourse to the benefit of same-sex couples, the rhetorical move reflects a more grounded factual recognition of the lives of many lesbians and gay men. They form families, they raise children, and they will continue to do so regardless of the outcome of marriage litigation." Read.

Translation: Family values means valuing all families.
