Prop 8 files outrageous, hypocritical lawsuit. What will they do next?

I would say I'm speechless, but let's be honest, I'm never speechless.

The same people who wrote discrimination into our constitution and banned loving same-sex couples from marrying have now filed a lawsuit in federal court attempting to retroactively throw out public campaign disclosure laws that they knew about all along, that all campaigns must follow, and that were approved by voters. Campaign finance laws require that donors be reported to the state. They preserve transparency in the democratic process and help the public track the role of money and special interests in political campaigns. They have also been upheld multiple times in courts across the country.

I think Geoff Kors puts it best:
"This lawsuit could not be more hypocritical. During the Proposition 8 campaign, the very same groups who filed this legal challenge sent menacing letters to Equality California's donors (link this to our news item for referance) , as well as corporations, labor unions, and individuals who stood up to discrimination and supported the NO on 8 Campaign. Now they are calling themselves the victims. What's more, these groups are arguing on the one hand that voter initiatives like Prop 8 should never be overturned by courts. On the other, they are asking a federal court to void a campaign reform law that was passed by voter initiative in California. They are asking that donations to Yes on 8 and only Yes on 8, even if illegal, be hidden from the public. This leads us to wonder what they have to hide?"

Another thing I simply cannot understand yet is what they could possibly hope to accomplish with this legal frivolity. Why would they want to have the names of donors taken off the secretary of state website since they are already out there, and have been? The legal and moral contortions they are willing to go through to push their extremist agenda make them curiouser and curiouser.

In other news of despicable lawsuits, anti-gay groups are going after schoolchildren again. Today Attorney General Jerry Brown said the court should throw out their lawsuit attacking a 2007 law protecting students from harrassment and discrimination in schools.

From taking away the freedom to marry, to attempting to revoke election laws to championing vicious bullies, the anti-LGBT industry is hard at work to take away YOUR rights and put us all in danger. Bless 'em.
