White House will try to count California’s 18,000 married couples in census

As usual, no promises.

But the administration has signaled that it will look for ways to include same-sex couples, including legally married ones, in its reporting of census data.

In the past, government officials had gone through the data and systematically erased any evidence of LGBT people before allowing it to be released to the public—recently using DOMA as a justification.

Until yesterday, there was every indication that the effort to officially hide our lives and loves would continue.

This week, EQCA President Cary Davidson joined a committee to ensure a complete and inclusive count in California’s portion of the census.
